Getting ready for Aurora's Baptism

While Caitlin and Grace were here this week, we tried on the dresses I bought them in Myrtle Beach. We saved these sweet dresses and pink purses to go to Baby Aurora's Baptism which is being held this Sunday. Mitchell will probably wear a Tony Hawk shirt, but he didn't want to try them on for me, so sorry, no picture.
Look at Aurora. She is starting to eat vegetables. Here she is munching on carrot puree. She loves to eat. She tends to want to put her thumb in her mouth to eat them, cause they're easy to swallow that way. Well, tomorrow on my list of things to do, I'm going to finish her baptism dress. I'll post a picture to show you tomorrow. It's sweet.

Now the big question, What am I going to wear?

Seeing Trippple

The triplets have spend the last few days with us. We went to the cottage for a couple of days and today, we made small cat blankets in the sewing room, made chocolate cupcakes, and then had tomato soup and crackers for lunch. After lunch we went for a swim then came home and had a snack and listened to the soundtrack of MaMa Mia. Kids have gone home now, and I'm bushed.

Who keeps old patterns

I have patterns from way back. I can't seem to part with them, although last winter, I culled all the old styles and threw them out. Years ago, I had seen a lady in PEI with a nice blue waffle shirt and she bought it in a boutique in Alberta. I bought the waffle fabric with the intent to dye it and make myself a shirt. I never did make the shirt and now I find myself in need of another Spa Robe. So I went digging through my old patterns to see if I have enough waffle fabric to make the robe. Yippee, there's enough. This Spa Robe pattern from McCalls was very quick to make and I used my serger to finish all the seams. I made a note on the pattern that I made one in 1996. I don't use that robe any more in favor of nicer waffle fabric. I have a white waffle robe already but it's at the cottage. Now I have one for home and one for the cottage. I'll find something really nice to embroider on it next week.

Mert and I leave for Augusta Maine first thing in the morning. I'm going to a big quilt show. They have classes, a merchants mall and lots of shows. I'm not taking any classes but I'll get to see the shows and visit the merchants mall. I've got a list of things I need to purchase. I'll be back on Saturday evening.

Jessica and Emily in their new duds

Jessica and Emily will be going to a wedding with their other grandparents on the August long weekend. I made them these little dresses to go. The border print is just sweet. I couldn't resist putting a little dragonfly in the flowers on Emily's dress, and a ladybug on Jessica's dress. It's like the secret garden theme.

I'm on the hunt for a new easy sundress pattern for next year.

Happy Birthday Carrie!

Seems that we're lucky to get together for birthdays. This weekend we were at the cottage and we celebrated Carrie's birthday. With all those candles, she needed a bit of help to blow them out.

Below, is a picture of the surfer kids. They all had a great time while Uncle Kenny drove them around in the boat and on the tube.

Droolie bibs

Patience and Aurora were over for a visit earlier this week. Hair color and cut for me, and cut for Grampie and Grace. Aurora is drooooooling like crazy. So, I made some droolie bibs for Aurora. I based the pattern off one that Patience bought at a boutique. I made 3 yesterday and had 4 cut and ready to sew this morning. I sewed up the 4 in half an hour. Here is Aurora modelling the droolie.
A set of 4 or 5 of these would make a nice little gift for a 3 or 4 month old. Patience is thinking of going into production as a little sideline. What do you think?

Happy Birthday Emily!!

Emily is now 7 years old.

This is a picture of me with Emily and Grampie sitting on her new French Rose quilt at the cottage. The quilt was our gift to Emily for her 7th birthday. It was a hot, hot day. After we spent the afternoon sipping on ice tea and sunning ourselves on the deck, we drove to Moncton. We tried Emily's quilt on her bed. It fit perfectly. Here's a picture of Em and her mother Carrie trying out the quilt on the hottest day of the year. Jessica and Emily also tried out the quilt.

At Emily's official birthday party, she had 6 of her closest friends join her at the Dairy Queen for a yummy party with ice cream cake. What could be better on a hot, hot birthday.

Happy 7th Birthday Emily.

Thinking of Christmas

A couple of years ago, I took a crazy quilting class from my friend Linda Hubbard. It was a basic course, and it left me wanting more. So ever since, I've been asking Linda to teach a class to make this Christmas sock. She's been telling me, you go get a bunch of people who want to do it, and I'll teach a class. Well, I'm not letting another Christmas go by without having a beautiful crazy quilted sock. So 2 weeks ago, I got some details from Linda, and a picture of the sock we will make. I sent out a notice to about 40 people. And voila, over the past week, we have 8 people who have signed up for the fall class. We can take about 3 more. It will be 6 weeks starting in mid September. I'm now collecting flosses, ribbons, buttons, beads, doilies, etc for this class. I can't wait to get started... not that I'm wishing away the summer, but this is a beautiful piece. I think you can click on the picture for some up close detail. Did you know that every crazy quilt, even a small piece like this has a spider in it?

Aurora's first weekend at the cottage

What a great weekend of weather we had at the cottage. Aurora and Patience came for the weekend. We had beautiful sun and a lovely breeze. Aurora loved sleeping in the pack and play outside. She really liked her tour of the kids cottage with Grampie. She loved the warm water and kicked the water like crazy. She had her very first campfire. She was amazed by the fire. And she discoverd she had toes, and that they were very tasty.

Running the Nike 10K Human Race

Well, my Rogers Juicebag interview/spot has been postponed because the interviewer had a 9am class today. So the new date is July 17th.

Running - So, because I'm a Nike/ipod sport kit user, I received an invitation to run in the 10k human race on August 31, 2008. This race is unique since all runners will unite worldwide and run on the same day.

Now, I've had trouble with my running since mid-March, when my hip gave out while running on the beach in South Carolina. Then, after letting my hip heal, I was just getting into it again, when I went to Nova Scota to be with family, then went right to Newfoundland for Quilt Canada and a short vacation. When I returned in mid-June, I started running again, probably a little too agressively, and I am now nursing a very tender knee. I love the sense of accomplishment after I have done a run, but the for the last 2 weeks, I have only been walking. Fast walking mind you. I still feel the tenerness in my knee. I'm also feeling so stiff. I think it's because I'm not getting the excercise I'm used to. I might try early morning swims a couple of days a week to work out the stiffness... I just don't think I'm moving enough.

So, with this new invitation for the Human 10k, I was a little hesitant to sign up , but I did. My daughter Patience did too, and got a training program to train for this 10k run. The program outlines how far to run on each of 3 runs per week. This takes us right to race day. Also, I joined the Running Room training group and when I see that program, I might participate in that. So I think I'll start training and see where it takes me. I'll try a short walk/run tomorrow to see how I do.

Knitting - Looking for a baby romper pattern

Here is a little sweater I knit for Baby Aurora when I was in Nova Scota last month. I love the little pink buttons that I picked up at Frenchy's. Patience wants me to knit Aurora a little outfit like this one in this link.

If one of my knitty friends have any ideas where to find a pattern like this, would you let me know.

Happy Canada Day and Sewing 101

This afternoon, we find ourselves in town, and without any little kids to spend Canada Day with. So we're walking across the train bridge and going to the downtown celebrations by ourselves. One of the feature concerts we want to see is Cadillac Mike. We think he does Elvis songs. We're not sure, but it'll be fun anyway. We'll eat market food then walk home before supper. The sun is shining today and our spirits are so lifted.

Well, after putting the push on to make sure I had Emily's quilt done for her July 11th birthday, I'm done in plenty of time. It turned out so cute. Mert snipped each of the 4 layers on each flower. It took him hours and has calluses on his hands. I washed it to make the roses all fluffy and raged. Grampie couldn't resist lying on the quilt... Also, here is a picture of Patience and Aurora laying on Emily's quilt. I'll take a picture of Emily and her quilt on her birthday and show you. I'm sure she'll be delighted with it.

Now, I'm slowing down and doing smaller projects for the summer. Yesterday, I got out some summer seersucker and made these 2 sundresses for Caitlin and Grace. They are so easy and quick to make. While I was sewing them, I was thinking of when I was in grade 8. We had home economics classes back then and in our class we learned some basic sewing. I felt like yesterday was grade 8 basic sewing. 5/8" seams, gathering, hemming. It was an easy sewing day.

Tomorrow I'm off to Fabricville to find a nice summery sundress pattern for Jessica and Emily. Something a little more big-girl like.
