Fibre Expressions - Jan 2011

The Friday Girls went on an outing instead of our usual coffee break.  We went to the Fibre Expression Show at Old Government House.  It is put on by the Fibre Artists Guild in Fredericton.     I sometimes hesitate to go to these shows... because they are way tooooo inspiring.   Well, today's visit to the Fibre Art Show, was no different.... In my head all day, I kept saying, I need to start stitching more.... I'm sure others get like that too...

From reading the who's who in the guest book at the show this morning, many have been to see the show already.  I can't possibly show you all the pictures. But I will show you my top favorite three pieces in no particular order.

This crazy quilted pillow was exquisite. I didn't get the maker's name, but I was intrigued by how she stitched her seams so different than I do.  I love how most of her seams were well inside the seam and the stitching didn't straddle the seam like mine do.  It took me by surprise.

In the detail picture, I really like the simple feathery spray.

This framed cross stitch is called Sew Cozy by Patricia Drummond.   I loved all the detail.  The mouse, the scissors, the cupboard filled with quilted goodies, the plant and even a Noah's Arc.

Have a good look at the 5 detail pictures, and you'll have to scroll back and forth to see if you can spot it in the full frame picture.

I have misplaced my notes on the name and the maker of this work.  But I can tell you how much I really like this framed flower piece.  I've never done this type of stitching, but I think I need to explore further.   The caterpillar, the bee and the little snail are what I love the most.  See the 3 detail pictures below....

Well there.  My favorite three pieces.   Are you inspired yet?   If you haven't been to Old Government House in Fredericton yet, you can see the show until January 28th.

Gail, I haven't been to the exhibit yet- it's on my list for next week. I'm guessing the first and third pieces are both done by Barb Carroll. I know she has done a CQ pillow and her work is always exquisite so no doubt it's hers. The last piece is hers, I'm sure, as she did a "workshop" last year for us in Embroiderers' Guild and that is the piece. Mine is 90% done, I must dig it out and finish it... Pat Drummond used to be a FQG member...

Thanks for posting these awesome stitcheries. Such detail in the cross-stitch and I love the look that stitching next to the seam in the crazy quilt pillow gives.

Hello, I have just come across your lovely page after searching and searching for the cross stitch chart for "SEW COZY" I love it and have been looking for ages! I would really appreciate anyone's help in finding a copy of this chart. Obviously I would more than cover the costs incured.
Take Care. Linda
